The VLAN that stops at the trunk

Two switches, one trunk, and a server nobody on the other switch can reach. Find what the trunk refuses to carry.

The ticket

"Since last night's change window, PC1 can't reach the server on the other switch. The link between the switches is up — I checked the lights." — network ops

Your goal: Make PC1 ping the Server across the trunk — without dropping VLAN 20.

The network you're handed

  • SW1 — a switch, the access switch with the desks
  • SW2 — a switch, the switch with the server
  • PC1 — a pc, a VLAN 10 desk
  • PC2 — a pc, a VLAN 20 desk
  • Server — a server, the VLAN 10 server

It is already cabled and configured, and something in it is wrong. Nothing on this page tells you what — find it the way an engineer would, with show commands, ping and ipconfig in the industry-standard CLI.

How it's scored

  • The grader checks the real network, not your commands: the simulator runs the actual pings and reads the actual tables. It passes the moment every check holds.
  • One star for fixing it, one for beating the par time of 4:00, one for using 10 commands or fewer.
  • A quick fix that breaks something else doesn't count — the checks also watch what must stay working (or stay blocked).
  • Your copy of the network is private to your browser. Share your score and a friend gets their own fresh copy.
